Hi guys! My name is Megan and I’m the head of Charities, Outreach and Communities Committee at St Aidan’s. We are here to work with the college community and the greater Durham community through volunteering and giving back. We would love for you to join us!
My job is to sustain and enhance community spirit. Furthermore, to broaden our participation within the wider community in order to sustain a happy and compassionate community. The position entails nurturing on going volunteer opportunities and creating new ones to suit the interests and passions of the current Aidan’s student body. My goal for this year is to get Aidan’s more involved in integrating students into the local community; by organising joint events, tours of the area and social innovation. I want to increase participation in volunteer events, clothing drives and care-home visits. We can and should do more to help those in a less privileged position.
I also want to tackle the issue of human trafficking as a college; To take a collective stand against the atrocity and raise money and awareness for A21 movement which saves and supports victims of Human Slavery and trafficking. And finally, I aim to create better links between our alumni community in order to organise more talks and internship/ volunteer opportunities in college. Please don’t hesitate to come talk to me if you are interested in Volunteering abroad or at home, Erasmus programmes, broadening your knowledge etc. Or in internship opportunities or advice from alumni and older students. You can email me at [email protected] or drop me a message on Facebook!
